Orientalis Saint Clair Tisdall (1859-1928)


Buku WAQ turut menyebut orientalis yang bernama William Tisdall (1859-1928). Beliau disebut menulis buku 'Masadir al-Islam'. Baca WAQ m/surat 28. Tisdall turut menulis sebuah buku 'The original sources of the Quran' terbitan 1905.

Siapa William St Clair Tisdall?

Tisdall pernah berkhidmat dengan misionari di Isfahan dan di Bombay India. Tisdall juga menulis buku bertajuk 'sources of Islam'. tahun terbitan tidak dinyatakan  - link.

Pengkritik Tisdall pernah menulis seperti berikut;

Berg pula mengkritik tulisan Tisdall mengenai Quran sebagai;

Berg concluded "it seems that Ibn Warraq has included some of the essays written by Tisdall not on the basis of  scholarly value or its status as 'classics', but rather on the basis of their hostility to Islam".

Bila membaca sejarah Abbasid khususnya pada era awal, era Harun Al-Rashid dan sebelumnya juga, kita akan jumpa mengenai Barmakid. Keluarga Barmakid dikata berasal dari Parsi dan dulunya pernah menganut agama Buddha. Pertama memeluk Islam kalangan keluarga Barmakid adalah Khalid ibn Barmakid (d.782). Beliau memeluk Islam sekitar tahun 720an. Keluarga Barmakid pernah menjadi pembesar Abbasid yang mendapat kepercayaan istana Abbasid Harun Al-Rashid.
