Deformation Measurement Workshop (1986)


I was given the opportunity to attend the Deformation Measurement Workshop (DMW) held in Boston in 1986. It was one of the early and major workshops on deformation measurement for geodetic application. The workshop was initiated by Mr Fritz Petersohn, President of Boston Survey Consultant, together with Prof Krakiwsky of Calgary University. The workshop is the second in the series after the successful of the first one (i.e., PEDS1 held at Calgary in 1985).

Sedikit Tentang Barmakid dan Balkh

Bila membaca sejarah Abbasid khususnya pada era awal, era Harun Al-Rashid dan sebelumnya juga, kita akan jumpa mengenai Barmakid. Keluarga Barmakid dikata berasal dari Parsi dan dulunya pernah menganut agama Buddha. Pertama memeluk Islam kalangan keluarga Barmakid adalah Khalid ibn Barmakid (d.782). Beliau memeluk Islam sekitar tahun 720an. Keluarga Barmakid pernah menjadi pembesar Abbasid yang mendapat kepercayaan istana Abbasid Harun Al-Rashid. Menurut Britannica, Barmakid adalah - link ; Barmakids , priestly  family  of Iranian origin, from the city of  Balkh  in Khorāsān, who achieved prominence in the 8th century as scribes and viziers to the early  Abbāsid  caliphs.
