FIG & IAG Symposium Nottingham (2004)


In summer 2004 another big event was organized by FIG together with IAG. The event was 1st FIG International Symposium on Engineering Surveys for Construction Works and Structural Engineering. Nottingham, United Kingdom, 28 June – 1 July 2004. The person in-charge in organizing this symposium is Professor Gethyn Robert of the IESSG Nottingham University.  I attended this symposium and managed to have a poster presentation.

Sedikit Tentang Barmakid dan Balkh

Bila membaca sejarah Abbasid khususnya pada era awal, era Harun Al-Rashid dan sebelumnya juga, kita akan jumpa mengenai Barmakid. Keluarga Barmakid dikata berasal dari Parsi dan dulunya pernah menganut agama Buddha. Pertama memeluk Islam kalangan keluarga Barmakid adalah Khalid ibn Barmakid (d.782). Beliau memeluk Islam sekitar tahun 720an. Keluarga Barmakid pernah menjadi pembesar Abbasid yang mendapat kepercayaan istana Abbasid Harun Al-Rashid. Menurut Britannica, Barmakid adalah - link ; Barmakids , priestly  family  of Iranian origin, from the city of  Balkh  in Khorāsān, who achieved prominence in the 8th century as scribes and viziers to the early  Abbāsid  caliphs.
