IUGG/IAG General Assembly Sapporo (2003)


The XXIII IUGG General Assembly together with IAG was held in Sapporo Japan from June 30 to July 11, 2003. During the IAG President (Fernando Sanso) opening speech he mentioned names of geodesist passed away between the last meeting (in Birmigham 1999) up to Sapporo 2003;

Sedikit Tentang Barmakid dan Balkh

Bila membaca sejarah Abbasid khususnya pada era awal, era Harun Al-Rashid dan sebelumnya juga, kita akan jumpa mengenai Barmakid. Keluarga Barmakid dikata berasal dari Parsi dan dulunya pernah menganut agama Buddha. Pertama memeluk Islam kalangan keluarga Barmakid adalah Khalid ibn Barmakid (d.782). Beliau memeluk Islam sekitar tahun 720an. Keluarga Barmakid pernah menjadi pembesar Abbasid yang mendapat kepercayaan istana Abbasid Harun Al-Rashid. Menurut Britannica, Barmakid adalah - link ; Barmakids , priestly  family  of Iranian origin, from the city of  Balkh  in Khorāsān, who achieved prominence in the 8th century as scribes and viziers to the early  Abbāsid  caliphs. The Barmakids were also known for their patronage of literature, philosophy, and science and for their tolerant attitude toward various religious and philosophical issues.
