BUTE's Geodesy Dept


While in BUTE, I have visited the Geodesy/Surveying Dept. It is one the most established Geodesy school in Eastern Europe.

The photo above is a plaque with the name of Geodesy/Surveying staff written on it. The Dept is currently headed by Prof Jozsef Adam. The Dept has produced many distinguished geodesist. Among the most notable were Profs Lorand Eotvos (1848-1919), Akos Detrekoi (1939-2012, age 73) and Peter Biro (b.1930; PhD 1961 Bute).

Sedikit Tentang Barmakid dan Balkh

Bila membaca sejarah Abbasid khususnya pada era awal, era Harun Al-Rashid dan sebelumnya juga, kita akan jumpa mengenai Barmakid. Keluarga Barmakid dikata berasal dari Parsi dan dulunya pernah menganut agama Buddha. Pertama memeluk Islam kalangan keluarga Barmakid adalah Khalid ibn Barmakid (d.782). Beliau memeluk Islam sekitar tahun 720an. Keluarga Barmakid pernah menjadi pembesar Abbasid yang mendapat kepercayaan istana Abbasid Harun Al-Rashid. Menurut Britannica, Barmakid adalah - link ; Barmakids , priestly  family  of Iranian origin, from the city of  Balkh  in Khorāsān, who achieved prominence in the 8th century as scribes and viziers to the early  Abbāsid  caliphs.
