Bagi pelajar geomatik yang mengikuti subjek Pelarasan Data Spatial (Least Squares Adjustment) ada beberapa buku yang selalunya disyor sebagai rujukan. Salah satunya ialah Analysis & Adjustment of Survey Measurements (AASM). Buku ini ditulis bersama oleh Edward M Mikhail dan Gordon Gracie. Mikhail merupakan professor fotogrammetri di Purdue Univesity manakala Gracie profesor surveying science di Erindale College U of Toronto.  Buku AASM adalah terbitan agak lama iaitu tahun 1981 namun kandungan dan cara penyampaiannya amat baik untuk memahami tentang  least squares adjustment . Buku ini tidak ada dalam koleksi PSZ dan sesiapa yang beminat perlu mencari dari librari staf secara peribadi. Saya baru saja dapat satu copy buku ini setelah mengikuti kuliah LSA yang disampaikan oleh Dr Dudy tempoh hari. Pada setiap tahun penghujung Februari Bahagian Ukur Geodeik (BUG) Jupem mengadakan mesyuarat KKG. Pada tahun ini mesyuarat diadakan pada Khamis 25 Feb. Panggilan mesyuarat kali ini dikeluarkan awal iaitu tiga minggu sebelum. Ahli mesyuarat agak ramai lebih 30 wakil dari berbagai agensi - Jupem, UTM, Uitm, JMG, JMM dan Jabatan Tanah dan Survei Sabah & Sarawak.  Antara agendanya ialah pembentangan laporan aktiviti enam kumpulan kerja - Project Team 1 - 6.  Pada tahun ini nampaknya hanya Team 2 dan 5 sahaja yang menyediakan laporan bertulis yang dikemukakan kepada urusetia sebelum tarikh mesyuarat sebenar. Lecture in week 2 for deformation survey concentrated on least squares adjustment implemented using two epoch of survey data. An assignment was given earlier in week one for students to work using what ever available adjustment package. Starnet seems to be the only one available. The lecture for this week also discussed about the field work which is suppose to be carried out at Padang Kawad. Due date for survey data submission is set on April 8 (after mid-semester break). Bila membaca dan belajar mengenai  least squares adjustment nama Gauss ini pasti disebut-sebut. Beliau merupakan ahli matematik dan tokoh awal yang memperkenal teknik least squares adjustment . Gauss telah mengguna pakai teknik LSA untuk hitungan dalam permasalahan astronomi. Bagi sesiapa yang ingin membaca biografi Gauss ada dua buah buku mengenai beliau tersimpan di PSZ. Satu yang menarik mengenai Gauss ialah beliau amat rapat dengan pemerintah tempat kelahiran beliau di Jerman- Duke of Brunswick. Duke of Brunswick juga telah membiaya Gauss semasa belajar hinggalah memperolehi PhD dan seterusnya sepanjang karier beliau di universiti. Dua buah buku biografi Carl Friedrich Gauss - - - - -

The first lecture FYPII for this semester was held this morning. The meeting is mainly to  remind students to keep track with their thesis project. Two important dates were announced - the date for technical paper submission (May 18) and thesis presentation (May 30). Ten students were absent. In the afternoon one postgraduate student came to discuss about a paper to be submitted for publication. I was able to edit the earlier chapters while the results and conclusion not done yet. - - - - -

The first two lectures on deformation survey in Week One of this semester were given at BK1. In the first lecture only ten students turned up while in the second fifteen students were there. The lectures cover basic introduction and highlighted the common tasks encountered in analyzing the deformation by geodetic method. Emphasis were given on the error of survey measurement and the important role of monitoring network particularly the datum point stability analysis. Lecture 1 & 2 - - - - -
