IAG Edinburgh 1989 & Bjerhammar


IAG Symposium in Edinburgh was hosted jointly by the Royal Society, the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the University of Edinburgh. Prof Roger Hipkin (of Geophysics Dept, Edinburgh University) has involved in organizing this event. 
The symposium also saw the presentation of the Levallois Medal to Professor Arne Bjerhammar. IAG President at this particular symposium was Professor Ivan Mueller of Ohio State University.

Sedikit Tentang Barmakid dan Balkh

Bila membaca sejarah Abbasid khususnya pada era awal, era Harun Al-Rashid dan sebelumnya juga, kita akan jumpa mengenai Barmakid. Keluarga Barmakid dikata berasal dari Parsi dan dulunya pernah menganut agama Buddha. Pertama memeluk Islam kalangan keluarga Barmakid adalah Khalid ibn Barmakid (d.782). Beliau memeluk Islam sekitar tahun 720an. Keluarga Barmakid pernah menjadi pembesar Abbasid yang mendapat kepercayaan istana Abbasid Harun Al-Rashid. Menurut Britannica, Barmakid adalah - link ; Barmakids , priestly  family  of Iranian origin, from the city of  Balkh  in Khorāsān, who achieved prominence in the 8th century as scribes and viziers to the early  Abbāsid  caliphs.
