Sebuah kajian oleh Aligargh Muslim University bertajuk "The Holy Qur'an and the Orientalists: Literary Perspective" amat menarik untuk dibaca. Kajian oleh Towqueer Alam sekitar tahun 1992. Kajian beliau melibatkan beberapa terjemahan Al-Quran yang diusaha oleh pengkaji Barat atau orientalis. Tafsir yang dikaji antaranya adalah oleh George Sale (1697-1736), William Mohammad Marmaduke Pickthall (1875-1936) dan Prof AJ Arberry (l905-1969). Mengenai terjemahan Qur'an oleh George Sale disebut bahawa; George Sale, being a representative of Christianity has contributed well for Christianity. So far as his English translation of the holy Qur'an is concerned, it is the noblest rendering of Sale to "The Society For Promoting The Christian Knowledge". It will be better to conclude that his translation "The Koran" although under the missionary intent is literally a valuable work.
