NZ Vertical Datum (PhD Victoria 2016)

Image
Recently, a PhD thesis entitled "Airborne gravity across NZ - for an improved vertical datum" was written by Jack McCubbine of Victoria University, Wellington. The thesis was  supervised by Dr Euan Smith, Dr Fabio Caratori and Dr Matt Amos, and submitted to the School of Geography, Environment and Earth Science. McCubbine obtained MMath from Exeter in 2012. McCubbine PhD (Victoria Uni, Wellington) Contents of the thesis; - Heights and reference surfaces; the disturbing potential; gravity anomalies and geoid heights; vertical datums in NZ; terrestrial gravity in NZ; global gravity models (ggm); airborne gravity across NZ; combining data sets using LSC; computation of a new gravimetric quasigeoid; summary, research outcomes and recommendations for future work. - - - - -

MSc Airborne Gravimetry NZ (2016)

Image
Another contribution of airborne gravimetry project in NZ is a MSc thesis entitled "Investigating the optimal integration of airborne, ship-borne, satellite and terrestrial gravity data for used in geoid determination". The thesis was written by Rachelle Winefield, a Geodetic Surveyor at LINZ. The thesis was submitted to Victoria University of Wellington in 2016. Rachelle graduated with MSc in Geophysics with merit. Rachelle obtained BSurv from Otago in 2006. She also graduated with BA (Linguistic) from Massey 2007-2012. Rachelle work as Geodetic Surveyor with LINZ since 2007. (source -  linkedin ). Geodesists Ramesh Govind

Image
When compiling reading materials on geoid in Australia we surely encountered papers jointly written by Kearsley and Govind. For instance "Geoid evaluation in Australia  - status and problems" paper presented at Geoid Symposium 1990 (source -  springer ). Another paper is Kearsley & Govind (1991) "Geoid evaluation in Australia" published in Australian Surveyor. Dr Ramesh Govind is now a Senior Lecturer at Division of Geomatics, Uni of Cape Town. He is in the process of establishing a global analysis centre at UCT for undertaking high precision, multi-technique space geodesy data computation and analysis – contributing to international programs – through the international services for Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR), the French DORIS system, GNSS, and VLBI (using radio astronomy measurements). Read here -  spacelab uct . Geodesists Ramesh Govind Short bio of Govind taken from UCT source; Govind, who was born and grew up in Durban, left South Africa for exile in 1982...

Nasa Societal Reading Sources

Image
Nasa has a lot of reading materials on various aspect of their activities. For instance a collection of articles on societal impact of space flight in context which contain 34 chapters can be access online. Chapter 1: Has spaceflight had an impact on society? an interpretative framework. Chapter 2: What are turning points in history, and what were they for the space age? Chapter 3: In search of a red cosmos: space exploration , public culture and Soviet society. More about it can be access here ... source:  history-nasa . NASA (Published in 2015) - - - - -

While at JTS I have the opportunity meeting many Fght alumni who work there. One of them is Mr Genot Ak Sinel@Jennoth attached to Sri Aman Survey Branch. Genot graduated in 2003 and his FYP is entitled "Keberkesanan pembangunan tanah hak adat bumiputera (HAB) di Sarawak". Photo with Mr Genot Note: Mr Genot has won an International Convention Scholarship Award from Sarawak Convention Bureau - ASPRS UAS Symposium 2014, October 2014 (Reno, Nevada, USA) ( source ). Genot also has received Sarawak Honours List of Pingat Perkhidmatan Terpuji PPT (Gangsa) in 2008 ( source ). Genot is also a Vice President of The Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) for the 2017-2019 period ( source ).
